Therapy for Adults at ANIMA
Thoughtful, evidence-based therapy for adults, delivered in a collaborative and trauma-informed way. We work with complexity, nuance, and patterns that may not fit neatly into a diagnosis.
How Therapy Works at ANIMA
Whether you’ve noticed you don’t feel quite like yourself lately, or you’ve been carrying something for a long time, thinking about therapy can feel daunting. At ANIMA, therapy is something we work on together—it’s an active, collaborative process, not something done to you. It’s usually most helpful when you’re able to come regularly and stay engaged, even when things feel uncertain or challenging, especially in the early stages. Our role is to support you through that process, at a pace that feels steady, respectful, and sustainable.
You may find it helpful to read about our approach to therapy. This can help you get a sense of whether this feels like the right time for you.
Who Therapy is for
Therapy at ANIMA supports adults who are experiencing emotional, psychological, or life‑related difficulties, particularly when things feel complex, long‑standing, or hard to make sense of alone.
People often seek therapy when they feel stuck, overwhelmed, or caught in patterns that no longer make sense — even when they’ve tried to manage on their own. Our work is evidence‑based and delivered by experienced clinical psychologists, with therapy shaped collaboratively to support meaningful and sustainable change.
Common reasons people seek therapy include:
Feeling overwhelmed, stuck, or emotionally exhausted
Ongoing anxiety, stress, or inner tension
Low mood, burnout, or loss of direction
Effects of past experiences that continue to influence the present
Difficulties with focus, organisation, or adult ADHD
Repeating patterns in relationships or self‑criticism that feel hard to shift
How we work in therapy
Our work is grounded in evidence‑based practice and informed by trauma‑aware and neuroaffirming principles.
In therapy, we focus on understanding patterns over time, working collaboratively rather than prescriptively, and tailoring the work to the person in front of us rather than applying a one‑size‑fits‑all model.
Therapy may draw from approaches such as EMDR, Schema Therapy, Parts & Chairwork, CBT, ACT, and related modalities, selected thoughtfully and adapted as the work unfolds.
What Therapy is Like at ANIMA
Therapy can be reflective, challenging, and at times uncomfortable, particularly when working with patterns that have been present for a long time.
It is not a quick fix, a passive process, or something you need to perform well at. You don’t need to arrive with a clear story or a defined goal; therapy often begins with working that out together.
Telehealth Options
Telehealth appointments are available where clinically appropriate. Sessions are delivered via secure video or phone and are eligible for Medicare rebates in the same way as face‑to‑face appointments.
Taking the Next Step
If therapy feels like it may be helpful, the best place to begin is by sending an enquiry. You don’t need to have everything worked out before reaching out.
Send an enquiry and our Patient Care Team will be in touch to answer questions and guide you through the next steps.
