Psychological Assessments

At ANIMA, we provide comprehensive psychological and neuropsychological assessments for children, adolescents, and adults. Our approach is thoughtful, integrative, and grounded in deep clinical expertise, helping people make sense of patterns that may have been missed or misunderstood elsewhere.

We take time to understand the whole picture: development, context, strengths, challenges, and lived experience. This allows us to identify meaningful patterns, clarify complex presentations, and provide genuinely useful recommendations, not just diagnostically accurate ones.

Seeing the whole picture

Many people come to assessment after years of uncertainty, mixed feedback, or partial explanations. At ANIMA, our role is to look beyond surface‑level symptoms and isolated test results.

We are known for:

  • Recognising overlapping and co‑occurring presentations

  • Understanding how trauma, neurodivergence, learning, and mental health interact

  • Identifying patterns that are often overlooked when assessments are rushed or siloed

This depth matters, especially when assessments are guiding education, workplace adjustments, treatment planning, or access to supports.

Our Assessment Pathways

From your first contact to your final report, we aim to make the assessment process clear, supportive, and empowering. You can expect a collaborative approach that values your voice and lived experience, comprehensive evidence-based assessments tailored to your unique needs, and clear, detailed reports with practical recommendations and NDIS-ready documentation where required. Our assessments explore cognitive, emotional, and behavioural factors to help you understand your strengths and challenges, and we provide guidance on next steps so you feel confident moving forward.

What you can expect

What makes our assessments different?

  • Depth over speed: We take the time required to understand complexity

  • Integrated formulation: Not just test scores, but meaning and context

  • Clear, timely reports: Written to be understood and used, not shelved

  • Actionable recommendations: For home, school, work, and healthcare

  • Neuroaffirming and trauma‑informed practice: Across all ages

  • Conducted by Experts: All of our assesments are conduted by Clinical Psychologists and Neuropsychologists who undertake a minimum of 8 years of training.

Our reports are typically provided promptly after your feedback session, with timeframes discussed clearly in advance to avoid surprises.

Our Assessment Process

Our assessment process is structured, thorough, and designed to make things as clear and supportive as possible from the outset. While each assessment is tailored, most follow the steps below.

  • You begin by completing the relevant assessment enquiry form. This allows us to understand what you’re looking for, who the assessment is for, and any important background, before we make contact.

We encourage you to provide any relevant referrals, reports or documentation relevant to your assessment.

  • Once your enquiry is received, our Patient Care Team will contact you to:

    • Discuss the assessment pathway recommended for your needs

    • Answer practical questions

    • Book the diagnostic assessment

This ensures bookings are appropriate and well‑matched from the start.

  • You or your child will then attend the diagnostic assessment with one of our Clinical Psychologists or Neuropsychologists. This may include:

    • A detailed clinical interview

    • Standardised assessment measures

    • Tasks selected specifically to address the referral questions

The exact components depend on the type of assessment and your individual needs.

  • Following the assessment, you’ll receive:

    • a feedback session to walk through the findings, answer questions, and discuss practical next steps

    • a clear, comprehensive written report

Our reports are written to be understandable, useful, and actionable, and are provided in a timely manner, with timeframes discussed clearly in advance.

You don’t need to know exactly which assessment you need before enquiring; the enquiry form and booking call help us guide you to the most appropriate pathway.

Ready to take the next step?

If you’re considering an assessment for yourself, your child, or an adolescent in your care, the best place to start is an enquiry. This allows us to understand your needs and guide you to the most appropriate next steps.
